Pittsburgh Steelers News

Pittsburgh Steelers has a rich history. The team was founded on the 8th of July, year 1933, as an expansion team through Arthur Joseph Rooney, Sr. The team of Steelers during that time was known as the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team by that time was a member of the East Division of the NFL. The first three seasons of the Steelers as Pirates in NFL made them strive as they finished in 5th, 5th and 3rd place, respectively. The Pirates had a good record when they were able to finish in second place of NFL East with six wins and 6 losses during 1936. In 1940, the Pittsburgh Pirates was renamed the Pittsburgh Steelers, to represent the city’s leading steel industry. By 1943, due to World War II, the Steelers had to acquire some other players, because many of their original players were fighting in the war. In this case, the team merged with the team of Philadelphia Eagles, and Steelers was named Phil-Pitt Steagles. In 1944, however, the Steelers merged with the Chicago Cardinals and was named Card-Pitt.

By 1945, the team went back as a single team. In 1967, the team was moved to the Century Division, a division of the NFL that would last until 1970. When the AFL and NFL merged in 1970, the Pittsburgh Steelers joined the American Football Conference Central Division. The first successful season of the Pittsburgh Steelers was the 1972 season, when they were able to finish 1st place in the American Football Conference Central Division, with a record of 11-2. The Steelers defeated the Oakland Raiders by 13-7 during the 1972 Divisional Playoffs. However, the success was stopped by the Miami Dolphins who had beaten the Steelers by 21-17 in the Conference Championship. By 1974, the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers had no regrets in buying the Cheap Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, because the team reached their first Super Bowl achievement with the help of an outstanding draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers had a 10-3-1 record and won the Divisional Playoffs with 32-14 over the Buffalo Bills. With great team work and determination, the Steelers made a come back in the Conference Championship, defeating the Oakland Raiders by 16-10. In the Super Bowl IX, the Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings by 16-6. In 1975, the Pittsburgh Steelers once again finished first in the AFC Central, posting a record of 12-4; the Divisional Playoffs made a 28-10 win over the Baltimore Colts. As the Steelers had their second appearance in the Super Bowl, they have beaten the Dallas Cowboys by 21-17 during the Super Bowl X.

As they pushed into the regular season, the Steelers won their first game against the Dolphins by 28 to 17, but they were beaten 9-0 in their next game, at Jacksonville. They also lost their next two games, against the Bengals and the Chargers, but won at Heinz Field against Kansas City Chiefs in week 6. The following three games all saw the Steelers beaten again, in a spell that featured Roethlisberger being injured with a concussion, and him having to leave the field at Atlanta Falcons. The following week at Oakland, Roethlisberger threw four interceptions, two of which led directly to Raiders touchdowns, yet still put in a sterling performance, completing a textbook 25-yard touchdown pass to running back Willie Parker at one point, as the Raiders struggled to contain Pittsburgh. Oakland eventually scraped out a win that day, and it was a bad sign for the men in black and gold.

A loss to the Broncos followed by a couple of wins against the Saints and the Browns, was followed by a serious defeat. This was against the Baltimore Ravens, where they flopped 27-0, and the Steel Curtain appeared to have failed completely. The Steelers managed to salvage some vague respect from the rest of the season when they won another three in a row, but the curse of the Ravens stopped them once more, before they pulled a final 23-17 victory out of the bag in their last game at Cincinnati. It wasn't enough to land the Steelers a spot in the playoffs, as they wound up their season in 3rd place in the AFC North Division. Despite this uncharacteristic performance it is expected that Pittsburgh Steelers tickets will be in short supply for the 2007 NFL schedule, and it is recommended you make some serious enquiries into the best source of Steelers tickets before the 2007 NFL season gets properly underway.
